Rekeying changes the internal keying of a compatible lock so that a different key operates it. Old keys no longer operate the rekeyed lock, while suitable external hardware can stay in place.
When rekeying may suit
It can be useful after moving into a property or losing a key. The lock needs to be compatible and in good working condition. Check whether each relevant door can be rekeyed and whether matching keys across doors is possible.
